The Nobel Prize in Medicine this year was given to scientists Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman “for their discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19.” Dr. Robert Malone, the inventor of the very same mRNA platform, says, he was not surprised when he heard the news. But not for the scientific contribution of Karikó and Weisman – their work is not actually that significant, Malone explains – nor for the mRNA Covid vaccines themselves since these products have limited effect and serious safety concerns, Malone says. His lack of surprise was due to a simple reason – you have to look at who gives out the award and then follow the money. “I'm well aware that there are longstanding commercial and financial ties between the Karolinska Institutet and Moderna and Pfizer. Pfizer's contributions to the Karolinska Institutet are quite large,” Malone says.
Dr. Malone is a well known physician and biochemist. Despite being the inventor of the mRNA vaccine technology, he has been critical of the Covid vaccines using the same technology, particularly by highlighting the safety concerns. He has also been an outspoken critic of the government Covid policies, including lockdowns and mandates.
